What Training To Expect When Becoming a DSP | Emmaus Homes

Industry Leading Hands-On Paid Training:

Emmaus offers new team members an exciting training schedule, access to resources and ways to personally develop into an outstanding Direct Support Professional.

A few trainings include:

  • Orientation:

You will leave with a basic understanding of the philosophy and culture of Emmaus, responsibilities of the job (including documentation, prevention and reporting of abuse & neglect, client rights, etc.), and some hands-on skills such as preparing food textures.

  • Crisis Intervention Training (Mandt):

You will leave with an understanding of the importance of relationship, communication, and conflict management in the work we do. Learn physical skills to maintain the safety of clients you support and yourself.  Upon completion, you will receive a certification in Mandt.

  • CPR and First Aid:

Gain skills in recognizing and responding to emergencies, hands-on application of CPR, choking, and controlling bleeding.  After completing this class, you will receive a certification in the American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR.

  • Level 1 Medication Administration Training:

Understand the immense responsibility our Direct Support Professionals have for the health & safety of the clients, the effects of medication (good and bad), and how to accurately administer prescribed medication.  Upon completion, you will be certified as a Level 1 Medication Aide.
