5 Reasons Students Are Spending Summer at Emmaus | Emmaus Homes

There are a lot of reasons why college students and graduating seniors are now calling Emmaus one of the best summer jobs in Missouri. We recently talked with some of them to learn why:

1) Flexible Hours & Shift Pick-ups

As a Direct Support Professional, we provide support for adults with disabilities 24/7. For a student, this means coming back to St. Louis over the summer has a lot of options. You can work full-time and get as many hours you need to have a paycheck ready to take back to school. We also have scheduling software so that part-time team members can browse openings and people that they might want to work with.

2) Great Pay & Career Growth

It doesn’t have to stop at being a summer job! If you attend school in the area, our managers are used to working with students. You’ll get hands on experience while learning more about your field of study. Consider it the start of a career path reaching a potential of $48,000 per year. With a bachelor’s in human services/healthcare OR HS Diploma/equivalent with 5 years’ experience in a human service or health care field.

3) Go on Adventures!

What were you planning to do this summer? Most of the things you were already going to do, the men and women of Emmaus want to do too! Go to a baseball game, find new animals at the zoo, cook up a barbecue or cool off at the pool. Whatever your summer plans look like, there might be an opportunity to do it while making a difference.

4) Paid Training & Certification

No experience required. Emmaus wants every team member to be as confident as possible. Preparing them to provide the best care possible. You’ll receive a certification in CPR, First AID, MANDT, and Med Level 1. Some of the things you’ll learn about in the first few weeks include; Disability etiquette, Missouri Quality Outcomes, Professionalism, Strategic Planning & Risk Management, Food Textures, Person Centered Planning, The Fatal Five, Client Rights, Health & Safety, HIPPA, Diversity, and MORE!

5) Supportive Team

Every leader is focused on making a positive change in our community. Letting our Core Values of Customer Centered, Integrity, Initiative and Collaboration lead their strategies. Their expertise paired with the idea that our Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of our organization ensures our mission and vision are lived out in our everyday services. This year, Emmaus will provide over 1 million hours of direct support services throughout Franklin, Warren, St. Charles and St. Louis counties to many adults with developmental disabilities.

And a Bonus Reason: The gift of serving others and making a difference.

At Emmaus Homes, we know our clients want to be independent. In order to do that, they need a home and community that embraces their unique abilities. Living without support is hard. Our clients can feel frustrated, excluded, and powerless without support. We believe everyone deserves the resources needed to live independently. We understand it’s tough to manage life alone. Which is why we provide a high-quality service. Caring for the whole person for their whole life.
