Preparing for Christmas is a common topic of conversation this time of year. One way that we often hear about folks preparing is in their shopping list- their gifts that they need to get for others, making sure that everyone gets something. Sharing gifts is one of many ways of showing our love.
Mother Teresa once said, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.”
Our clients are great at showing their love in so many ways, including giving to others. A few weeks ago, some of our clients worked with folks from local churches to make gifts for others, giving of their own time, talents, and love. As a group, we made toys for dogs who are in shelters, Christmas cards for soldiers, and hot chocolate treats for a warming center for folks who are un-housed.
The amount that we were able to do working together was truly impressive, but even better was the time that we spent together, the relationships that we formed, and the love that were shared around the table and out into the world. That is truly the best gift that we can give or get at Christmas- the love of our friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers that help us to remember the reason for the season, God’s gift of love to us that we know in Jesus.
