Tom’s Emmaus Journey: Dedicated DSP And Monthly Supporter
An unexpected opportunity arose with Emmaus. He came in knowing nothing about the organization. A friend had enlightened him on the mission and shared about a new live-in position that opened. Initially, he was hesitant, as he had limited experience caring for other individuals, but he decided to take a leap of faith. After a discussion with his wife, he resigned from his current job even before hearing back from Emmaus.
To his surprise, Tom received an offer the very next day. Visiting Washington to meet the managers, staff, and clients, he felt a connection, especially when one of the clients lightened the mood with a joke about him. That moment assured him that he was in the right place.
He deeply resonated with Emmaus’ people-centered care approach. He sharedd that our clients are not defined by their disabilities; they deserve the same respect and dignity as anyone else. As a DSP, he finds immense fulfillment in being on the front lines, making a tangible difference in the clients’ lives every day.
Tom received the Emmaus Customer-Centered DSP Award in 2023 for his dedication and loving approach. Not only has he been dedicated to Emmaus for two years, but he recently made the decision to become a monthly donor and take an extra step to support Emmaus. Tom wishes he had discovered Emmaus sooner in his career. Through his job and monthly donations, he is thankful for the opportunity to serve and make a meaningful impact.
