You may have seen Emmaus or other organizations sharing about matching donations. A matching donation usually comes in two forms:

  1. Incentive Matching or Challenge Matching: An individual or company will match a certain percentage of each dollar given toward a specific project or on a specific day. The objective is to inspire others to give and help an organization reach its goal.
  2. Employer Matching Donations: This is a benefit available through some employers who give a specified amount to match the charitable contributions of their employees. Sometimes the company will donate when employees volunteer a certain number of hours.
Today we are focusing on the first type of matching gift, but if you’ve never checked with your employer to see if they offer matching donations, now would be a great time to look into that.

Emmaus Homes is blessed to have received two Incentive Matching opportunities for Giving Tuesday, December 5th. Each has pledged $3,000 in matching gifts. This means that up to $6,000 is available for you to capture.

One gift is being made by an Emmaus Board Committee member. The other comes from a retired minister in the United Church of Christ. Both donors are joined by their spouses in their generosity. The goal of these two long-time Emmaus supporters is to encourage others to give, knowing that their donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar. This means that if someone gives on Giving Tuesday (or by clicking “give” on one of Emmaus’ Giving Tuesday promotions), that donation will be doubled by our matching donors.

Both of these donors want to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. They realized that by using their blessings to encourage others to give, they could have a unique impact. “We used to give on Giving Tuesday to capture the matching dollars. Now, we are in a position where we can be the ones to offer the match.” said one of the couples. The other matching donor has been providing Emmaus’ match ever since we started offering it in 2016. We appreciate both donors for their part in the critical work Emmaus is doing for our clients amid this current public health crisis. Talk about showing up in a big way!

On December 5th, will you show up and help Emmaus reach at least $6,000 in donations to help us take advantage of these generous offers? Or you can give now to be sure you don’t miss it. Either way, when you show up, it will mean that the women and men of Emmaus can keep counting on Emmaus to be there for them with critical services. There’s never been a better time to show up for those who need us most.
