New Volunteer Ideas for the Holidays! | Emmaus Homes

As the holiday season nears, many people start to question what they will be giving to their dear ones. A football for Jack, a coloring book for Ashley and, of course, socks for dad – the list goes on. During this time, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the season. So instead of focusing on what gifts to buy and the stress of the holidays, spend time thinking about how you can give back to those right here in your community.

At Emmaus, we have several different ways to give back this holiday season. These needs include the Christmas Giving Tree, the South County Holiday Party, and becoming a Neighbor to Neighbor volunteer for a year-round friendship and more!

The South County Holiday Party has been around for several years held at the Parkway UCC in St. Louis. Many of our clients look forward to this event because they get to see their friends and staff that they don’t have the opportunity to see daily. The clients love to catch up, socialize, play games, sing karaoke, and of course have a visit from Santa himself! To make this party a success for all involved, many volunteers are needed. The Emmaus Christmas Giving Tree is found in various local churches as well as the Main Emmaus office. Beginning Friday, November 15th, call the office to reserve a Giving Tree tag to pick up, each tag has a client’s wish list item. The Giving Tree is for the people we support with the greatest financial need. Every person deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning with a gift under the tree for them and thanks to Emmaus Supporters, we can make that happen.

Neighbor to Neighbor. One of the best volunteer opportunities offered at Emmaus is friendship. With our Neighbor to Neighbor program, a consistent presence with one home or person is built. Whether it’s shoveling snow, decorating the house, enjoying community activities together with clients or both, a friendship is built.

During the quickly approaching holidays, please take a moment to consider volunteering with Emmaus today…
