What is #GivingTuesday? | Emmaus Homes

What is #GivingTuesday?GivingTuesday started as a day for anyone, anywhere to give, and it’s grown into the biggest giving movement in the world.” (GivingTuesday website).

Launching in the US in 2012 in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, #GivingTuesday branched out into its own organization by becoming a national online giving campaign. Usually occurring on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this movement grew as a way to begin the giving season and give back to the causes and issues that matter to you. Emmaus Homes has participated in #GivingTuesday every year since 2016.

In an era going digital, we need new ways to connect with each other and organizations alike. The initiative of the #GivingTuesday movement has done just that, connecting people around the globe to causes and nonprofit organizations that they are not only passionate about, but also organizations who would otherwise not have the resources to receive donations from donors internationally. Giving people and nonprofits alike a chance to take lead on changing the world by truly making a difference.

Stated on the #GivingTuesday website: “GivingTuesday harnesses the generosity of millions of people around the world to support the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live. We believe the movement will become the first global day of giving and a year-round platform for strengthening civil society.
