Sensory Night is an annual event held by Pi Theta Epsilon from Maryville University, an occupational therapy honor society. Pi Theta Epsilon members have been supporting Emmaus clients through sensory therapy methods for over six years!
Sensory therapy uses play activities that stimulate the senses. “It engages a person’s thoughts and feelings and helps improve a person’s response to different stimuli and social interaction,” says Kendra, Co-Vice President, who together with Corinne, Co-Vice President, plan and coordinate the monthly activities. “Our activities have included making pumpkin pie Play-Doh, bobbing for apples and making sensory water bottles—bottles filled with glitter, leaves or other seasonal items.” We ALL experience the world through our senses— sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.
Thank you Pi Theta Epsilon for your time and knowledge!
