Creating a Joyful Holiday Season: Embracing Inclusivity and Mindful Celebrations for All
December 14, 2023 | By Christina Ingoglia

In the thick of the holiday season, there is a lot to look forward to. Sometimes, though, people with developmental disabilities, and really anyone, can get overwhelmed. Routines get scrambled, we have more social time than usual, and we are around family more, typically. All of this might make anyone feel like the Grinch! Did you know that advocating for your needs or the needs of those you support during the holidays is part of our work to make the world more inclusive for all?

I’m including some links to helpful articles (some of which focus on children or a particular disability), but all of which can help each of us!

Remember, it’s okay to take breaks, it’s okay to take some time to breathe, and it’s okay to alleviate some of the pressures of holiday expectations. Communicate the support you or your loved one needs to family and friends. Maintain any boundaries you need to. All of this will surely make for a more inclusive, less stressful, and merrier holiday!
