E Advocates #26 – Post Election Recap
No matter who won the Presidential election, the Missouri Statewide Officer Races, or State and Federal Legislative Races, we would still have plenty of work to do to ensure that Missourians with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) have access to the quality services they need. In this Emmaus-specific recap, I’ll run down which Emmaus legislators have changed—in both the State Senate and House.
14 of the 22 legislators in the Senate and House who had our clients in their districts still represent us.
4 of the 5 Emmaus State Senators were not up for re-election. The only change in the Senate is that Rep. Adam Schnelting will become Senator Schnelting in January for Senate District 23. This seat was previously held by Senator Bill Eigel who was termed out. This is a very important senatorial district for us as it includes 27 of the St. Charles County homes we support as well as our corporate office and Learning Lab. We look forward to working with the future Senator Schnelting.
In the State House, 7 of the 17 State Representatives who have our homes in their districts are newly elected. These 7 newly elected officials will represent the following House Districts:
- #64 – Deanna Self. This was formerly Rep. Tony Lovasco’s district.
- #69 – Scott Miller. This was formerly Rep. Adam Schwadron’s district.
- #70 – Stephanie Boykin. This was formerly Rep. Paula Brown’s district.
- #104 – Terri Violet. This was formerly Rep. Phil Christofanelli’s district.
- #105 – Collin Wellenkamp. This was formerly Rep. Adam Schnelting’s district.
- #108 – Mike Costlow. This was formerly Rep. Justin Hick’s district.
- #109 — John Simmons. This was formerly Rep. Kyle Marquart’s district. He prevailed over Simmons in the primary two years ago, but Rep. Simmons will now return to the House.
If you live in any of the districts with a new Senator or Representative, this is a great time to reach out to share what issues most concern you—even prior to being sworn in in January.
We’re especially grateful to be able to continue working with the 14 Emmaus legislators who still represent districts where we serve their constituents!
