Emmaus Homes is a faith-based nonprofit with a clear focus: to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independently in the communities they choose.

Since 1893, we have served as trusted advocates and partners, providing whole-person support that honors dignity, promotes inclusion, and fosters self-advocacy.
Today, we continue to grow—offering nearly 1 million hours of direct support and serving 470 people and families each year across St. Charles, Warren, Franklin, and St. Louis counties. We are expanding our programs through our new Adaptive Solutions and Learning Lab services. These initiatives help us generate income that we can reinvest into our core program, Residential Services, while also expanding resources to better serve our community.

Each year, more than 14,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities rely on home and community-based services to live with dignity and independence. Emmaus is proud to be part of that story – walking alongside the people we support as they pursue their goals, discover their strengths, and live life on their own terms.
Our Mission is Clear:
Compelled by faith in Jesus Christ, we enrich the lives of individuals of all beliefs, with cognitive and developmental disabilities, by fostering independence, inclusion, and self-advocacy.
We believe that every person deserves to live with dignity, independence, and the support they need to thrive. That is why our work is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: when people are supported by compassionate, skilled professionals and are given the right tools and opportunities, they can live fuller, more independent lives.
But we know that support alone is not enough. Real, lasting change requires advocacy.
01
We advocate both with and for the people we serve– pushing for greater access to services, increased funding, and policies that break barriers.
02
At the same time, we are commited to empowering individuals to become advocates for themselves, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to share their needs and share their own futures.
Our leadership team brings together nearly 100 years of combined experience in the developmental disabilities field. Guided by our Core Values—Customer Centered, Integrity, Initiative, and Collaboration—they lead with a singular focus: positive, lasting change
01
We demonstrate customer centered behavior in many ways, including assessing and responding to varying needs, obtaining feedback from stakeholders, and building long-term relationships to provide the best customer service.
02
We have high standards of personal conduct. We may work in many different situations and with various groups of people, so it is of utmost importance that we behave with dignity and respect.
03
We go beyond what is asked of us, complete tasks with high standards, act independently, adapt to various circumstances, and we persist when faced with obstacles. We value a process of continuous learning, seek feedback from others, and are ready to act on information received.
04
We work well with others to achieve common goals. We are part of a broader group that maximizes the best outcomes for customers, both internal and external to the organization.
Transparency Matters.
We believe in clear communication and responsible stewardship. View our Annual Reports, Audits, and Form 990 filings for a closer look at how we operate and grow.
President & CEO
When Did You Start At Emmaus?
I started at Emmaus as the CFO in August of 2009. When our former CEO resigned a few months later I was asked to be the interim CEO and was officially appointed CEO in January 2010.
What Originally Made You Want to Work For Emmaus?
I had spent most of my career working with non-profits in several different capacities. I was ready for a new challenge and liked the idea of working in a larger organization that would the opportunity for further professional development. I was attracted to how the organization really seemed to live out its faith-based heritage.
What Has Been Your Most Memorable Moment at Emmaus?
There are countless memories, like the first time Shawn hugged me, or the first time Norman remembered my name, but ironically some of the most memorable moments happen at the funerals of clients we have been honored to serve. Families often share stories of how blessed they were to have found our services and staff share stories that portray the love and friendships they have built with our clients. It reminds me of what a privilege it is to lead this organization.
What’s One Thing You’re Looking Forward to for the Future of Emmaus?
I’m celebrating 15 years with the organization, and I have never been so optimistic about its future, but right now, I think I am the most excited about the Learning Lab at Emmaus. Providing training to other professionals, families, self-advocates, and the community will enhance the lives of countless people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and expand our reach in the local community.

What Originally Made You Want to Work For Emmaus?
As an HR professional, I have the privilege of helping people find and keep the right job, develop professionally, and engage in satisfying #WorkthatMatters. At Emmaus, I work to create a respectful, positive, and engaging work culture for our employees. When our employees are seen, heard, respected, and a part of the collaborative process our clients benefit by having tenured direct support professionals, who believe in our mission, and are committed to promoting client choice, advocacy, safety, and a life well lived.
What Has Been Your Most Memorable Moment at Emmaus?
There is no shortage of memorable moments at Emmaus. One memory that stands out is when three clients invited me to their home for brunch. When I arrived, one client gave me a T-shirt from our golf tournament that was given to him. He insisted I put the shirt on and wear it for our brunch. I happily obliged. Imagine my surprise when another client in the home came out of his room and asked if anyone had seen his Emmaus golf T-shirt! It turns out the client who gave me the T-shirt was pranking both me and his roommate. We laughed so hard, then I returned the T-shirt to its rightful owner.
What’s One Thing You’re Looking Forward to for the Future of Emmaus?
I summarize the work we do at Emmaus as work that matters. I love thinking about all the opportunities to do things that will make a lasting impact on those we serve. I want to look back on a long career with Emmaus and say that my contribution made others’ lives better. If that isn’t work that matters, I don’t know what is.

I love to plant flowers, try to grow plants from seeds, and to work in my yard. My husband and I are avid concert goers and love a good concert in the park. We have fostered for the Humane Society of Missouri for over 10 years. I am active in my church and love a good Ladies Bunco Night. I also enjoy community theater and try to see as many musicals as I can each year.I love to plant flowers, try to grow plants from seeds, and to work in my yard. What Has Been Your Most Memorable Moment at Emmaus?
One of the most defining moments was transitioning our clients from the campus to the community. Our clients live in beautiful homes, in a community that they chose, and are absolutely thriving.
This year has been remarkable too, as we welcomed more than 40 new clients and 100 team members!
Over the past decade, Emmaus has undergone a transformation. What has not changed is our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality services for our clients.

What Originally Made You Want to Work For Emmaus?
I have worked in this field for the majority of my career, providing direct support, case management and service coordination. While I loved service coordination, I was excited about the opportunity to be more directly involved in the lives of individuals with disabilities and being an agent for change. I wanted to be able to directly make change, versus sharing recommendations and observations. Emmaus was a provider I had worked with, the organization that stood apart for me- and had a mission I believe in.
What Has Been Your Most Memorable Moment at Emmaus?
There are several memorable moments since being at Emmaus; 2 of them surround watching clients we have supported increase their independence to the point of living on their own! I am lucky enough to still have relationships with them and get to check in and hear all about their lives now! I’ve also really enjoyed watching the culture of recognition grow- we have had 4 DSPs who won DSP of year awards at a national level. It has been great to tell the stories of our DSPs and advocate for the recognition and support they deserve.
What’s One Thing You’re Looking Forward to for the Future of Emmaus?
Emmaus is a progressive organization – and it’s hard to imagine what’s in store! I look forward to seeing how we continue to be a leader in our field, and collaborate with other providers. Working together, we can do some great things with technology. I am excited to be a part of it and see our clients living their best lives.

What Originally Made You Want to Work For Emmaus?
My grandparents (whom I adore) volunteered at the Emmaus Marthasville campus when I was young, and I grew up appreciating Emmaus’s mission and vision. As I studied psychology, gerontology, and human services in my post-secondary education, my passion for supporting aging individuals with special needs in my local community only grew. After my initial interview, I knew in my heart that Emmaus was exactly where I was supposed to be.
What Has Been Your Most Memorable Moment at Emmaus?
In working with the Client Services Department, I am blessed to be a part of many memorable moments for clients and staff. From supporting team members in their career growth to advocating for client independence and happiness, amazing moments are always taking place. In recent years, Emmaus has sponsored a Trunk or Treat in the Marthasville area. During this event, clients and team members dress to impress in fun and spooky costumes. Everyone smiles, laughs, and bonds over treats and creatively decorated trunks. The simple and innocent joy that is shared is unlike any other event. I will forever hold these magical memories in my heart.
